ABOUT ME

My children are the reason I am a doula.

Becoming their mother has been the most empowering, challenging, painful, joyful and insightful adventure. Long before my children I feel my life was leading me to this work. I would like to share with you a bit about myself personally and professionally.

I grew up in rural Kansas, surrounded by birth. Our little Celtic family farm gave me a rhythm to life and birth was always a part of that rhythm. As a child I would assist my grandfather in the births of the animals on our farm. He would often wake me before even the sun shone and invite me into what felt like a magical space. We would watch over the birthing mother with anticipation and we would celebrate joyfully when the new little one responded to his mother with breaths, squeaks and nudges.

These moments never left me.

When I became pregnant for the first time, those same magical feelings I experienced as a child came back to me as I dreamt about the birth of my own baby. I felt intimately the sacredness of this experience. My belief in that sacredness intensified when my first pregnancy ended in a loss that tore me down and slowly built me back up again. It was this personal experience that led me to become a trained bereavement doula through the Mothering Our Mourning program.  The following year, despite all my fears,  the day of my daughters birth came. The moment she was placed on my chest felt like heaven. The euphoria, the relief, the emotions were the most powerful I have ever experienced. That day I experienced a great transformation that I am not sure I even have the words to describe. After my daughters birth I quit my job in the world of social work and became a DONA certifed birth doula. My personal experiences with pregnancy and birth as well as my experience working with women and families in a social work setting gave me a passion to journey alongside families into this magical, sacred place where new life responds to us and unbreakable bonds can form. I believe it is in this space that we can support the well being of humanity and future generations.

At last count, I have assisted in more than 60 births. Continuing my certification and pursuing many educational additions is important to me. I use evidenced-based practices as well as intuition to support my families. My passion as your doula is to offer insight and friendship as we journey into this sacred space of birth. Throughout your birth I help navigate your family through the journey, create your ideal birthing environment, offer comfort and reassurance, provide ideas and suggestions for movement, positions, meditations and more. I look after your partner and other birthing companions and ensure the place your family is born is safe and peaceful. I am a guardian of this space and do all I can to ensure the sacredness of this space is respected and experienced by your whole family.

I have worked with many forms of family. Husband and wife, two mamas, surrogates, single mothers, and more. I offer sincere support to each and every family. My support and knowledge is offered to your unique family and I seek to honor your family’s racial, cultural, sexual and spiritual identity.
